Desert Plum Agates

Plum agates are multi-colored aggregates comprised of translucent chalcedony in shades of vibrant purple, composite with green and yellow bands of opaque jasper.

As specimens, botryoidal (grape-like clustered) agates are exceptionally rare and available in a very limited supply; thus, they have become one of the most expensive types of Gobi Desert stones. Being “eye agates” as well, colored aggregates and multi-colored aggregates of this variety command the keenest of collectors' eyes.

Gemstone-quality specimens containing shapes resembling persons or animals, as well as spherical specimens, are among the most expensive viewing stones in China today. The Flowers of Alashan Collection contains a handful of gemstone “Buddah” aggregates of this variety, most in the shape of the serene, seated Śramaṇa.
